Create a face drawing. You can use color if you want to.
Choose one of the options below
1. Create a self portrait. That is a drawing of ones-self.
2. Create a "selfie" portrait. You can use a picture you already have and draw the image of your phone and draw yourself as you look in the selfie
3. Draw a Caricature. Caricatures are portrait drawings where the artist will grossly exaggerate a face feature that is unique to the person they are drawing.
You could also draw yourself as an Anime character.

Pick one of the above. Try to figure out your face features that make you uniquely you.
Things to think about-

Lip shape
Nose shape
Ear shape

Draw your portrait/Caricature on a blank piece of paper. Don't make it too small, use the space wisely.

What does your monster feel like? What texture can you add to bring your mini monster to life. Ask yourself where does this thing live, what does it eat/drink, who are his friend/enemy? What does the environment look like where it lives? Does it live on land or sea, maybe an unearthly landscape?

Find three objects around your house that you can draw.
They should be three different "shapes"-consider the objects that you have learned to shade.
Arrange them so they will make a mini still life.
Draw and shade them so they look three dimensional.
Try to find a window, lamp or a light source that will create shadows.
Your paper can be vertical or horizontal. But it should be blank paper at least 8.5 x 11.
Use the VALUE SCALE to shade the objects

You can use:
Books to create "cube" shapes
Fruit to create "spheres or ball" shapes
Bottles, cups, glasses etc to create cylinders
These are just suggestions. The objects can be almost anything.

SHADING TECHNIQUES
Complete the drawing mechanics worksheet found in the materials folder
Using HATCHING, CROSSHATCHING, STIPPLING, SCRIBBLE, QUICK/ VARIED and your choice shade the boxes creating a VALUE SCALE.

What is a VALUE SCALE?
Value in art is essentially how light or dark something is on a scale of white to black (with white being the highest value and black being the lowest value).

Remember the phrase-The transition from light to dark.
Shading techniques is a skill learned to create the illusion of depth on paper.

The theme of your design must EMPHASIS the spiral
You will use LINE and PATTERN to fill the space
You must have a minimum of 9 different zentangle designs. You can have more but no less than 9.
You need to fill the space completely in a way that will create BALANCE and UNITY.

Create 18 tiles
On 8.5 x11 paper create 9 squares. You will need 2 sheets so that you have a total of 18 tiles when you are done.
You can draw them out or create them on sketchpad and print them
Using interesting lines and patterns you will create a total of 18 TILES. You can use some of the ones we went over in class but I would also like you to create your own patterns as well.
Tiles should be in black ink at this time
You will need a fine black ink pen and good paper for the final project. Do not start the project until instructed to do so.
